Our Ingredients
Ingredients And Source
Kiroja’s products are all natural and don’t contain Synthetic ingredients or Parabens. Most of our ingredients are either wild harvested or organic. To scent our products, we use organic essential oils instead of artificial fragrances. However, it doesn’t just stop there. We believe that we have a responsibility to the earth and to each other. Many of our products, like shea butter, shea nilotica, and argan oil are fairly traded and sourced from women’s cooperatives that help to enrich the lives of others. We take all of these wonderful ingredients and combine them to to create the products that you see on our site.
Shea Butter (Vitellaria paradoxa or Butyrospermum parkii) Shea butter has been used by the women of West Africa for generations. Shea butter is usually an ivory or off white color. Don’t be fooled by imposters, like Kpangnan Butter, which is a bright yellow and comes from a different species of tree. Raw, unrefined shea butter is naturally rich in the antioxidants vitamins A & E. Our wild harvested shea butter is fairly traded and produced by a partnership of women in Northern Ghana using the best quality shea nuts. No chemicals or additives are used in the processing of our wild harvested, raw, unrefined, shea butter.
Shea Nilotica (Vitellaria Nilotica) A rare moisturizing butter that is currently only produced in two countries: Uganda and The Sudan. Shea Nilotica is often referred to as East African Shea butter to distinguish it from its more well known cousin: West African Shea butter. Shea Nilotica tends to be softer, with a milder fragrance. It also contains high levels of olein, and essential fatty acids. Our shea Nilotica is fair trade, certified organic, and manually processed by a woman’s cooperative in Uganda. No chemicals are are used in the processing of our shea nilotica.
Argan Oil (Argania spinosa L.) Is a plant oil derived from the kernels of the argan tree, which is native to Morocco. Argan oil is one of the rarest and most expensive oils in the world. Argan oil contains high concentrations of Vitamin E (also called tocopherols) and carotenes (a form of Vitamin A), both of which are vital components that make up healthy skin. We source our argan oil from one of the first certified organic women’s cooperatives in Morocco. Our certified organic argan oil is also certified fair trade.
Local Craft Beer Yes, beer! Okay, this is not organic. However, beer has been proven to have antioxidant qualities. We use beer as one of the components in our manly smelling soap. All of our beer is sourced locally from craft brewers.
